What are vibration plates?

Vibration plates are machines that cause a plate to vibrate at high speeds, transmitting these vibrations to the user situated on the plate, either for fitness training or for other types of treatment.

The human body reacts to these vibrations by producing involuntary reflex muscle contractions which activate 98% of muscle fibres. Just 60 seconds of exercise at a frequency of 20 Hz will provoke 1,200 contraction/relaxation cycles per minute, equivalent to the number of cycles produced in a 1.4 km walk.

Acceleration is the indicator of a plate’s power and is measured in Gs (with G being equal to an acceleration of 9.8 m/s²). Our PROFESSIONAL plate has a maximum acceleration of 20 Gs (a turning fighter plane generates an acceleration of 9 Gs.).

There are, unfortunately, a large number of plates on the market now with accelerations that range between 1.8 and 2.7 Gs. This is a fundamental fact given that no effects on the human body have been documented at accelerations of less than 4 Gs.

Which is best for me, a tilting or a vertical plate?

Vibrating tilting movement (Marina d’Or Body Solutions)

In a tilting plate, as the right side of our body goes up, the left side goes down. This movement mimics our natural hip movement when we walk, so converting an anti-natural, vertical movement into a completely natural, tilting movement. Whatever the posture you adopt on the machine, for example postures used for developing the pectoral muscles or the triceps, the tilting movement is equally comfortable and is transmitted perfectly to the body.

This system also allows us to adjust the machine’s amplitude (the distance travelled between the lowest and highest tilting points), fundamental for regulating exercise intensity.

Vertical Vibration movements (other brands)

In the vertical plates the whole plate moves up and down, with a consequent transmission of movement from the feet to the legs, to the spinal column, to the cervical vertebrae and to the head. If the system is powerful enough, while it may have the same physical results as a tilting plate, it can become very unpleasant for the user and may cause headaches and dizziness as well as cervical and spinal contractures, etc.

Vertical plates tend to have low, non adjustable, amplitudes and are, therefore, less efficient.
